The most famous inscription associated with the Statue of Liberty is the sonnet “The New Colossus.” It portrays Lady Liberty as a “Mother of Exiles,” who offers refuge and hope to immigrants.
These days, powerful forces are trying to extinguish the flame of welcome, hope, and liberty.
Many Philly-area musicians want to do what they can to keep the flame burning. On Sunday, July 19th, more than a dozen soloists, duos, and bands will come together to generate funds for legal aid for immigrants via The Welcome Project, a social services organization that provides aid to immigrants in Philadelphia and Montgomery and Bucks counties (Serving Marginalized Communities - The Welcome Project PA / WPPA). This comprises accompaniment to legal consultations, court hearings and ICE supervision visits, an attorney referral program, financial support, advocacy and mental health resources.
These are just some of the musicians lending their talents to the day-long event at The Fallser Club: Dan May, Laura Mann, Cliff Hillis, Liz Miller, Michael Spear Duo, Honey Spot Boulevard, Scotti Mann, Michael Spear Duo, Honey Spot Boulevard, Fooling Ourselves.
